The Iowa State University All-Star Trek Quiz Bowl Packet by K. Michael Wilcox (kmwilcox@ccwf.cc.utexas.edu) NOTES: [Initials for the various series and films are used throughout this packet. When used within questions, it shouldn't be a problem, but when listed under answers, judgment should be used for acceptable alternatives. For example, _Next Generation_ or _Star Trek: the Next Generation_ are acceptable for TNG. It's up to you if _NexGen_ is enough. TOS is the original series (An answer of _Star Trek_ should be assumed to mean TOS.), and TAS is the animated series (Accept answers with "animated" or "cartoon" in them.).] Toss-Ups 1. The first Trek role for this well-known actor was as St. John (SIN-jun) Talbot, the Federation representative on Nimbus III in ST V. He later played Klingon chancellor Gorkon in ST VI and Cardassian torturer Gul Madred on TNG. FTP, name the respected British actor also known for roles on "Batman: the Animated Series" and _Time_Bandits_. Answer: David _Warner_ 2. Permanent exile for petty theft seemed awfully harsh, didn't it? I mean, the bit with Data could be called entrapment. On Stardate 3468.1 the Enterprise was investigating the Beta Geminorum star system, where they were stopped at planet Pollux IV (No, they don't match. Answer: _"Who Mourns for Adonais?"_ Note from Doug O'Neal (oneal@astro.psu.edu): Beta Geminorum is the greek-letter designation for Pollux. So they do match; give the TOS people at least that much credit. 4. The first episode he directed for TNG was "Lonely Among Us," followed by "Hide and Q" and 24 more, making him the most prolific director for the series. FTP, name the man better known for his work on both parts of "Best of Both Worlds." Answer: Clifford _Bole_ 5. The TNG stories "The Child" and "Devil's Due" had both originally been written in the 1970's for this proposed syndicated series. FTP, name these beings who "look for things, things to make them go." Answer: _Pakleds_ 8. Diving off the Cliffs of Heaven on Cirrus IV and the much safer Emerald Wading Pool on Sumiko III, horseback riding along the Kabul River, skiing the Denubian Alps, and playing poker with three of history's greatest minds are just some of the fun activities one can try, FTP, in what area of Federation ships? FTP, name this character, the nemesis of He-Man. Answer: _Skeletor_ 10. This San Francisco native was a physicist on the Enterprise before taking his familiar bridge post.
